Changing your contribution rate
If your circumstances change, you may want to review the amount you pay into your pension account. To help you decide how much you want to contribute, see the partnership calculator.
Changes in your contractual hours
Your employer contributes a percentage of your pay to your partnership pension account, so if you reduce your hours then the amount of contributions will reduce and your pension pot will grow more slowly.
Marriage, civil partnerships,divorce and dissolution
Marriage and civil partnerships
If you get married or enter into a civil partnership, you should tell your employer so that they can update your records
Divorce and dissolution
If you are going through a divorce, dissolution or annulment, please see the booklet Pensions and divorce, dissolution or annulment
Death benefit nominations
If you have nominated your husband, wife or civil partner to receive your death benefit payment, and the marriage or civil partnership comes to an end (through divorce or dissolution but not separation), the nomination will no longer be valid. You must therefore make a new nomination.
To revoke a nomination, please complete the Death benefit revocation form for classic plus, nuvos, partnership, premium and send it to your pensions administrator.
You can find the death benefit nomination and revocation forms under ‘Forms’
Opting out
Please read the opting out fact sheet * if you are considering opting out of partnership.
On loan
If you go on loan to another organisation that offers the Civil Service pension to its staff, you will remain in partnership. However, the employer you are on loan to may use a different pensions administrator. If this is the case, your old administrator will pass your pension record onto your new administrator. You should contact your new pensions administrator to confirm that they have received details of your partnership account and check your payslip to make sure the correct contributions are being deducted from your salary (if applicable).
Secondment
If you are seconded to an organisation that does not offer the Civil Service pension arrangements, you must talk to your employer before the secondment starts so that you understand your pension options.
Transferring to another employer who is part of the Civil Service pensions arrangements
If you transfer to another employer who is part of the Civil Service pensions arrangements, with no break in service, you will remain in partnership. However, your new employer may use a different pensions administrator. If this is the case, your old administrator will pass your pension record onto your new administrator. You should contact your new pensions administrator to confirm that they have received details of your partnership account and check your payslip to make sure the correct contributions are being deducted from your salary (if applicable).
*Booklets and leaflets are available from your pensions administrator – see under Pensions helpline for contact details.
