New Olympic Award for Civil Servants

Following the closing ceremony of the Olympics we are pleased to be able to recognise the efforts of the civil servants who assisted in making the Games happen. A one-off Olympic category for the 2012 Civil Service Awards has been created to celebrate individuals or teams who show excellence in delivering the 2012 London Olympic and Paralympic Games. The awards will be judged and presented by Lord Coe.

Sir Bob Kerslake said: 

“The success of the Olympics so far is a testimony to the dedication and hard work of many, including thousands of civil servants. The Games presented a unique test to the Civil Service and our response illustrated the skill and adaptability that makes the UK Civil Service world class.

“I am pleased to announce this new Olympic Award which will recognise some of those involved with the games, not only those civil servants who worked directly on delivering the Games, but also those who went the extra mile outside of their day to day jobs to contribute to the success of the Olympics.”

Nominations for these special awards open in September so start considering which colleagues or teams you think have made a special effort for the Games and who may have shown:
-          A commitment to excellence not only within your departments but for those who have also taken the opportunity to volunteer
-          Measurable impact on the successful delivery of the Games
-          Effective joint working arrangements that bring together colleagues from multiple teams, departments or other internal or external organisations
-         Evidence of going the extra mile.

The shortlist for all the other categories will be announced on 19 September 2012 in Civil Service World and online at www.civilserviceawards.com .

All the winners will be announced at the awards ceremony this November.
