Civil Service in the news

What is Civil Service Live?

Civil Service Live is being organised by the Civil Service (in partnership with sponsors) for the Civil Service. Its aim is to inspire innovation and enable the sharing of best practice for the largest ever gathering of Civil Servants. It is part of an ongoing programme led by the Cabinet Secretary to ensure we have a Civil Service that has the capability to meet the challenges of tomorrow.

Civil Service Live is all about inspiring the Civil Service. We will, in three days in April, do something we've never done before; some 6,000 civil servants will attend the first ever event of this size dedicated to the Civil Service. A unique learning and development opportunity, it will bring together the inspirational people running today's and tomorrow's Civil Service, private sector companies and from the wider public sector to showcase best practice and innovation.

Civil Service Live is not exclusive to senior civil servants and it's not a place where you go, sit down and listen to speeches all day. It will be much more interactive. Delegates will get involved and be able to attend the sessions that will really help them make a difference in their roles.

The Civil Service is delivering services in a changing environment with a huge diversity in users of public services. It will continue to be challenged to do more with less. To meet this challenge we must be better at innovating. We are going to have to do things in very different ways. This is why Civil Service Live is so crucial.

We will need to change the way we work in our policy making, our operational delivery and all of the things we do. It is also important that we have the right skills to help us meet our future challenges. Coming to Civil Service Live is a way of learning and finding out about development opportunities colleagues may want to take up in the future.

We want the Civil Service of the future to be full of people who will both inspire and develop their staff and think about new ways of working. People from outside the Civil Service will demonstrate their expertise at the event whilst ministers and senior civil servants will speak about the ongoing effort to deliver better public services. We will use the event to set out how we respond and think differently to meet challenges of the future.
