Civil Service Resourcing was set up in April 2011 with the remit to develop and provide a complete resourcing solution for the Civil Service.
Our team includes people from a range of government departments and experiences, offering insight and skills which are fundamental to the success of the services we provide. Drawing on these skills and experiences enables us to incorporate and build on the most successful and efficient resourcing services and products from across government.
Our objectives for 2011/12 include:
- To replace CS Jobs and CS Vacs with a service to provide both applicants and departments a single point to access vacancies and resource management tools for all roles across government.
- To implement procedures that encourage a Civil Service wide approach to the redeployment of surplus staff
- To take over responsibility of the Fast Stream recruitment
- To develop career transition support for staff leaving the Civil Service
- To review and renegotiate relevant third party contracts (for services such as marketing for new roles and support from recruitment agencies).
Although we are still in the relatively early stages of developing our services, we are on course to deliver our key objectives, having already made substantial progress in a number of areas:
Civil Service Jobs
All vacancies across government can now be found in one place – Civil Service Jobs. Implemented by Civil Service Resourcing, Civil Service Jobs was launched successfully on 30 September. Civil Service Jobs provides a more streamlined service for both internal and external applicants looking for government vacancies, as well as offering current civil servants easier access to opportunities for career progression. Departments also benefit by being able to access management information to support their resourcing decisions. The Civil Service Jobs system notifies surplus staff of any job that fits their profile criteria, helping to facilitate their redeployment within the Civil Service.
Civil Service Jobs also offers departments a full end-to-end on-line vacancy filling system for their internal, surplus/redeployment, cross-government and external vacancies. Civil Service Resourcing is working with a number of departments that have already signed up for this further service, and are currently developing implementation schedules. The roll out of this e-recruitment system across the Civil Service will continue into 2013, as other departments select to join the service.

Career Transition Service
Civil Service Resourcing continues to develop a Career Transition Service for surplus civil servants across government departments. The aim was to create a consistent and professional service providing surplus staff with the tools and guidance they need to assist them with their career transition. The service has launched with the opening of a Career Transition Centre, which is located at Bush House, London. The centre is currently being used on a pilot basis by our first intake of users from three departments and provides a wide range of resources, from Career Advisors and Coaches to workshops and transition support.
Fast Stream
In April 2011, Civil Service Resourcing took on the management of graduate Fast Stream recruitment and in September successfully launched the 2012 scheme. Utilising the Fast Stream website and new Fast Stream Facebook page, applications for the 2012 scheme are already up on last years numbers.
Assessment Services
Civil Service Resourcing is developing a range of assessment services, including an On-Line Sift Tool for all grades between AO and Grade7. An SCS assessment service is already in place. Other services are presently being piloted and early indicators already show that a standardised approach to Assessment will produce significant cost savings.
Civil Service in the English Regions
Civil Service in the English Regions is also part of Civil Service Resourcing. You can find more information on their work and the services they offer on their CSER pages.
