GSR SUMMER STUDENT PLACEMENT SCHEME 2013 – NOW CLOSED
This year the Government Social Research (GSR) Team will be running a pilot scheme for summer vacation placements for social research students whose degree contains a substantial research methods component. As a pilot, it is only open to students from a limited number of universities: Bath, Birmingham, Bristol, Cambridge, City University London, Durham, Edinburgh, Kent, Leeds, Liverpool, LSE, Manchester, Sheffield, Southampton, University College London, Warwick and York.
Timetable
Opening Date: 09:00, Monday 22 April 2013
Estimated closing date: 17:00, Monday 29 April 2013
However, please note that the scheme will close before the estimated closing date when a sufficient number of applications have been received, and this will be notified on the GSR website. It is therefore in your interest to submit your application as soon as possible after the opening date.
How to Apply
Please read the Application Process and Guidance before you apply. Then email your completed application form to ges.int@hmtreasury.gsi.gov.uk when the scheme opens.
Application Form
The application form is available now, however we will not accept applications before the scheme opening date.
Departmental Vacancies
Details of participating Departments and job descriptions (where available) are above. Candidates are asked to list their Departmental preferences on the application form. Those who are successful at the sift stage are advised that they will not always receive their highest preference of Department. Occasionally, a Department might withdraw from the scheme before placements are offered. In such cases, candidates allocated to that department will be placed in a reserve pool.
Eligibility Requirements
To be eligible applicants must be studying for, or already attained, a social science degree with a substantial research methods component. They must be on course for, or have recently attained, a 2:1 or 1st class honours degree. More information on the eligibility criteria and completing the application form can be found in our Application Process and Guidance.
Interviews
Candidates who are successful at the sift stage will be invited for interview at one of the participating Departments. Interviews are likely to take place in May/June 2013.
Equal Opportunities
The Civil Service is an Equal Opportunities employer. Candidates with disabilities (as defined in the 1995 Disability Discrimination Act) can choose to declare on their application form that they require adjustments at interview, for which we can make a range of provisions. Please contact us should you have any questions regarding this – we would be happy to help.
We are interested in your skills and aptitudes. We have no preferences for particular backgrounds or universities. We want to reflect the diversity of the country we serve.
