Nazir Afzal

Nazir Afzal OBE is Director, CPS London West, service champion for advocacy and a Higher Court Advocate.

Nazir is a Governor of Thames Valley University. He developed the first formal witness familiarisation training programme at the Metropolitan Police Crime Academy.

He organised CPS/Police Conferences on a number of subjects including the Honour Crimes Conference (2004) and is now the foremost criminal justice practitioner in this field. He has given more than 200 media interviews on the subject in both mainstream and South Asian media.

Nazir is CPS representative on the National Muslim Safety Forum, a Commissioner of the Commission on British Muslims and a founding trustee of the Centre for Muslim Affairs. He is one of the Muslim Power 100 and Asian Power 100. In 2007 he was named CPS Public Servant of the year and awarded the Daily Mirror "People's award" voted for by Mirror readers.

He was honoured with an OBE in 2005 New Year's Honour's List.
