Profile: David Sweeney
David's career has embraced the public and third sectors as well as private consultancy. Since joining the strategic leadership team his achievements have included directing the foundation programme for senior civil servants, Corporate Leadership First. His most recent role was as director of the Prime Minister's flagship Top Management Programme (TMP).
In the wider public service he has worked in clinical and leadership roles in the NHS, practising and managing in child, adult and family mental health services, most recently taking responsibility for the development of leadership in a London acute teaching hospital. He has, also, been the Chair of a not-for-profit social care enterprise, leading it through a period of restructuring and repositioning to achieve a new organisational vision and financial stability.
He has experience of independent consultancy to organisations including designing and delivering bespoke leadership development solutions. He read Classics at the University of Cambridge before training as a barrister at the Inns of Court School of Law. He has a postgraduate degree in psychoanalytic and systems thinking from the Tavistock Centre, and is a graduate of the European Health Leadership Programme, at INSEAD.
