Currently we require people to meet our customer needs during afternoons, evenings (1pm to 9pm) and on Saturdays (9am - 4pm) – there is flexibility around working patterns but we require a commitment from successful candidates to work at least 15 hours per week including a number of hours on at least two of our busiest periods on Monday, Friday and Saturday. Applications for both full time and part time hours, that fit business needs, will be considered.Training for the role will be conducted on a full time basis so all successful candidates will be expected to work full time for the duration of their training.

As the Finance Manager for the Research Programmes Group (RPG), you will be responsible for managing budgets and budgetary processes in relation to the money awarded by MRC to universities and other bodies (commonly known at MRC as the extramural spend). You will be responsible for the monitoring, reporting, analysis and forecasting of the extramural programme spend as well as having line management responsibility for the extramural finance team.

You will be a qualified Accountant with significant post qualifying experience working in a management accounting environment. Your experience will expand across both the public and private sector and you will ideally have knowledge of charity accounting, Treasury Rules and accounting packages. As a representative for the section, you will demonstrate strong influencing and negotiating skills and strive to maintain strong working relationships.
