Online application and selection process

Making it onto the Statistical Fast Stream won’t be easy. You will need to go through a demanding application and selection process that may last up to six months. However, we do try to make things as transparent as possible. We will keep you informed and provide you with feedback at every stage of the process, and there’s an online messaging service to guide you as you go along.

To apply, you will need at least a 2:2 degree or postgraduate degree containing some statistical content, a graduate diploma of the Royal Statistical Society or an equivalent qualification.

Although final-year students usually start in the first few weeks after graduating, we can offer places beforehand (and immediate starts to people who have already graduated).

Candidates who narrowly miss out at the fi nal assessment centre stage may be offered Main Stream Statistical Officer posts.

We believe that the most effective Government Statistical Service is one that accurately reflects the society it serves. That’s why we welcome applications from all sections of the community.
