The Summer Placement scheme is a 6-9 weeks work placement. It is open to undergraduates and graduates with disabilities with the aim of introducing interns to the interesting and varied challenges across the UK Civil Service.
Interns are placed in a wide range of Government Departments and undertake the type of work that Fast Streamers do. Through the scheme, interns are able to further develop the skills and abilities required for the Fast Stream.

By the end of the placements, interns discover a great deal about the role of the Civil Service, and about the relationships between Parliament and Civil Service departments. With a real insight into the Civil Service work and training behind them, the intention is that interns are fairly equipped with the knowledge of what the Civil Service is about and an understanding of the role of Fast Streamers. This will enable trainees to feel confident and assured of their abilities to apply to the Fast Stream.
Interns will be paid a competitive training allowance by the employing government departments. Departments will not be able to provide funding for travel and accommodation, but they will try and assist (where possible) to find somewhere to stay, if required.
If you have specific areas of interest, we will ensure that you are placed with a relevant government department that will give you the exposure and insight. Whichever department you are placed in, we will ensure that you will receive good training and development.
Please note that placements do not lead to permanent employment.
