High Potential Development Scheme

Our High Potential Development Scheme (HPDS) aims to identify and prepare those leaders with the highest potential for the most challenging posts the Civil Service has to offer.

Selected candidates, at director and deputy director level, are provided with support to develop the behaviours, skills and processes that will build leadership and strategic capability.

Who's eligible for the scheme?

The HPDS is aimed at directors who have been identified as successors in departmental talent pipelines, or feature in succession plans. Deputy directors will only be considered in exceptional circumstances, and must be about to step up to director level or named as successors to key director-level posts.

Those in specialist roles will be considered, as well as individuals who can provide broader leadership across a range of roles.

What are the benefits?

The programme focuses on board-level leadership, behaviours and tools.

It shows participants what practical steps they can take, in their day-to-day roles, to help improve delivery and build future capability across the Civil Service.
