Civil Service Statistics 2005 annual report

Numbers of civil servants

The National Statistic of the numbers of civil servants is now published by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) on a quarterly basis, see: www.civilservice.gov.uk/iam/statistics/qpses.asp

The statistics in this report have been compiled under the ‘Mandate’ process formerly used by the Cabinet Office to assess the size and diversity of the Civil Service, and are not compiled on the same basis as the numbers published by ONS. The primary use of these statistics is to enable detailed comparisons of grade, pay and diversity levels across the permanent staff of the Civil Service.
