There is currently no specific legislation that employers must follow, when it comes to providing childcare. However, we offer any support we can to employees with young children, to help them achieve a better balance between their home and work responsibilities.
Legislation allows parents (foster carers, adopters and guardians) of children under six or disabled children under 18 the right to apply to work flexibly.
Flexible working also enables us to explore innovative ways of improving service delivery.
The Civil Service Childcare Toolkit
The Civil Service has produced a toolkit which sets out all of the different types of childcare support possible. Individual departments and agencies should use this to offer whatever childcare they need to meet the specific needs of their organisation and its employees.

The Sure Start team also provides a very useful website on both local and national childcare provision. This outlines individuals’ rights and lists other useful contacts.
