This Code is issued under Part 1 of the Constitutional Reform and Governance Act 2010 (www. opsi.gov.uk) under which the Minister for the Civil Service has the power to make regulations and give instructions for the management of the Civil Service, including the power to prescribe the conditions of service of civil servants.
A hard copy version of the Civil Service Management Code (CSMC) and amendments was discontinued in April 2000. Departments and agencies now receive electronic notification of changes to the CSMC, on which the Council of Civil Service Unions will have been consulted, and have access to the current version through the Cabinet Office website. The distribution list has also been thoroughly reviewed and notification of changes is currently issued to about 150 contact addressees including a small number outside the Civil Service (for example, public sector organisations, foreign embassies and so on)
