About the Civil Service
Achieving a diverse Civil Service
In 2005, we launched Delivering a Diverse Civil Service: A 10-Point Plan to drive forward our commitment to diversity over the three years to 2008. This was an ambitious plan aimed at helping to achieve a more diverse workforce that would make the Civil Service better equipped to deliver. It was also a visible signal of broader and deeper cultural change across the organisation.
In July 2008, we launched the next strategy for the Civil Service. Promoting Equality, Valuing Diversity: A Strategy for the Civil Service builds on what has already been achieved and reflects the drive to mainstream equality and diversity further into every aspect of our business. It is also a framework of commitments that will help the Civil Service fulfil the new single public equality duty under the Government's new vision for equality Framework for a Fairer Future – the Equality Bill.

To ensure the strategy is implemented, all departments and agencies will be developing their own delivery plans. Their Diversity Champions will monitor progress against their plans and the Cabinet Office will monitors overall progress on the plans and the overall strategy.
