Draft Diversity Strategy Published

With the third anniversary of the 10 point plan approaching, we are developing a successor diversity strategy, that will build on the progress we have made and set out our next steps. The senior cross departmental Diversity Champion's Network conducted an informal evaluation of the 10 point plan and the lessons learned from this together with soundings from other key stakeholders, has informed the development of the next strategy. The strategy will take us towards our aspiration to reflect the society we serve by 2020 and to create a fully inclusive Civil Service, confident in its own diversity.

You can see a current draft of the strategy on this site. It will be further developed to include case studies that demonstrate the positive link between workforce diversity and excellence in policy development and service delivery; and that reinforce the business case for diversity. We would welcome your comments on the draft strategy, please send them to WhatWorks@cabinet-office.x.gsi.gov.uk by Friday 6th June. We plan to publish the new strategy in July.

We have commissioned an evaluation of the impact of the 10 point plan in the way departments and agencies delivered diversity. We will share the learning from this to help focus actions in delivering the new strategy.

The 10 point plan includes the diversity targets for the senior civil service that were set as part of the Spending Review 2004:

The 10 point plan remains in place, but the final measurement point for the SCS targets is end March 2008. The final figures will be available in autumn 2008, when they will be published.

In December 2008, we are holding the Civil Service Diversity and Equality Awards, to identify and celebrate our achievements in this area. Nominations in seven categories can be made online at www.civilservicenetwork.com by Friday 1st August.
