New drive on sustainability signals end for plastic bags
The Central Office of Information (COI) has today announced that it will no longer supply plastic bags for use in government marketing campaigns in light of a major project on sustainable procurement.
Peter Buchanan, COI’s Deputy Chief Executive said:
“COI has been involved in sustainability issues for a number of years and is already an industry leader in the case of direct marketing and live events. The sustainable procurement project that we began last autumn will ensure all of our output – from direct mail and advertising production to print and exhibition builds – is sustainable. ISBA – the leading trade body for British marketers – has welcomed COI’s lead in this area, which will benefit the whole industry.
“COI already advise the government departments and agencies we work with to consider alternatives to plastic bags, but as part of this initiative the purchase of plastic bags will be phased out with immediate effect.”
